Gifts and grants from local, regional, and national foundations support students, faculty, and programs at the University of Mary Washington. Such gifts support a wide variety of goals including student access to education through scholarships, student and faculty research, and innovative solutions for current issues.
How can we help?
The Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) assists faculty and staff seeking foundation support, providing guidance and technical assistance through the research, proposal preparation, and submission process. We can:
- Serve as a liaison to foundations
- Identify foundations that may be interested in your program or project
- Review your letters of interest and proposals prior to submission
- Provide guidance on grant reporting requirements and stewardship of funders
What is the process for submitting a proposal?
Each foundation is unique in its requirements. As part of our partnership with you, we assist in guiding you through those processes. Contact us before approaching a foundation. This may greatly increase your chance for success and is required by the university.
Funding Opportunities
A helpful database to begin research is the Foundation Directory Online. While CFR can assist in identifying possible funders, it is always helpful when you can identify foundations that closely match your project goals.
Final Review
All foundation proposals must also be submitted to UMW’s External Grants & Funding Office using the External Funding Cover Sheet and Checklist for review and approval no less than seven days prior to the foundation’s deadline to ensure consistency with university policies and guidelines. Start with us, and we will help.
Please contact us by email or at 540-654-2061 to discuss foundation funding opportunities.
